June 15, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented effect on Tewksbury and all town services. In mid-May, library staff members returned to the library building to finish planning and implementing the services we will soon roll out. What an adventure it has been to adjust the way we provide services to you! Thank you for the support you have shown us while we’ve been closed. Your kind comments on Facebook and via email help us to stay connected to you. We hope to see you in person as soon as we can.

Access to Library Materials
We have been working to get thousands of Tewksbury books and DVDs out of the library and into your homes through Curbside Pickup. Please check out the website for more details about using the service. We will expand Curbside Pickup in July in order to make more appointments available throughout the summer. We will also offer prepaid document delivery in July. Contact the Reference Department for further details. We can help you find and borrow materials using our Library To Go service. Fill out and submit a short form on our website. Staff members will find books for you and make an appointment with to pick up your materials curbside! Check here for Library To Go for adult’s, teen’s and children’s materials.

Remote printing and other document delivery will be available very soon. Please contact the Reference Department at x207 for details. Remember, our online materials are available 24/7 including ebooks and streaming movies and you can still obtain a library card to use these services if you don't already have one. Online Library card information is here.

Summer Reading Programs
Our summer reading programs for children, teens and adults begin on June 22nd and end on August 14th.
Registration begins on June 22nd. The program has gone virtual with a site called READSquared! You can sign up online to use READSquared or download the app beginning on June 22nd. It's free! Children read and complete missions to earn virtual raffle tickets for over 80 raffle prizes to be awarded at the end of the program. Find an illustration of Hardcover Turtle in local business windows and be entered to win a weekly prize. Check out all the information on our One Stop Summer Reading Spot. Use our Curbside Pickup and Library To Go services described above to request books this summer.

Programs for Adult, Teens and Children
All of our library programs and events continue to be held virtually. Programming for all ages is most often available via Facebook, Zoom or YouTube. Please check the library’s event calendar, Assabet, for further details and to register when required.

We want to open when you can come in and use the majority of our services: browsing materials throughout the library; using computers and photocopier/fax/scanners while safely distanced, and get reference and reading recommendations safely from the staff. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for fixtures and furnishings that keep us all safe to arrive. I understand how frustrating it is to not know when you will be able to visit us. We are monitoring state and local data, as well as considering how we can best serve you while the pandemic continues. We do not want to open partially and have to turn you away because we are not offering the service that you want. We believe it will be better for all of us to reopen later when we can serve the majority of your needs. We appreciate your continued patience.

Sincerely, Diane Giarrusso, Library Director

March 20, 2020

As you are aware, due to the COVID-19 corona virus, the library is closed for the purpose of obtaining a library card and borrowing our print and media collections.
However, we have a vast array of online resources for you on our website and we will be highlighting these collections on our various social media platforms as well as in our weekly email newsletter.

Our digital collections are accessed with your TPL card.

If you DO NOT have a TPL card and you are a resident or employee of the Town of Tewksbury, we will temporarily waive the in-person requirement to show ID and proof of residency.
After you complete one of the ways to apply for a library card, we will email you a copy of your e-library card number and PIN. You can start using it immediately to access our online collections.
The e-Library card is temporary and will expire in 90 days. You may come in anytime when we re-open to make your temporary e-Library card a permanent library card for use in the library or online.
Please Note: In order to provide fair access for all residents, there may be limits placed on the quantity or duration of use depending upon the contract we have with our online vendors. Thank you for your understanding.

If you are not sure if you have a TPL Library Card, please call us at 978-640-4490 or email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to check for you.

Please choose one method of obtaining your card. Here are your choices as of 3/19/2020:

  • Email us at [email protected] with the following information: Full Name, Street Address, Town, Daytime or Evening Phone Number, Email Address and Birthdate.
  • Complete the Web Form on our “Library Card Applications” page under About Us on our website:
  • Call the Library at 978-640-4490, ext. 202 and we will take your information over the phone. Please leave a message if we cannot answer; we will return your call.

Feel free to choose the method that suits you best. We hope that you and your family and friends remain healthy.

Thank for your support of the TPL as we adjust our services during this unusual situation.

Diane Giarrusso, Library Director
