Can you use the computers at the library?
To use the computers at the library for homework or games, you need to bring in a library card. With our new sign in software, you can just sit at any open computer and type in your library card number to begin using it. You are limited to 60 minute blocks, but if no one is waiting for a computer, you can extend your time. If you don't have a library card or forgot yours, you can come to the desk and we'll sign you in with a guest pass.

What can you do with computers at the library?
We have several computers available in the Children's Room, including:

  • 3 online book catalog stations to search for items in the library
  • 6 workstations with the Internet, Microsoft Office, Encarta, Timeliner, Family Treemaker and Magic School Bus software
  • 2 workstations for preschoolers with preschool software installed like Bailey's Book House, Sesame Street Words, Reader Rabbit, and Donald's Alphabet Chase.

  • Printing costs 10 cents per page. Sorry, we don't have color printers in the Children's Room, but we do upstairs in Reference!

What about programs or events?
We have Story Times, Crafts, Book Buddies Groups and Special Events every month. To see what is coming up for you to do, check out our Calendar.

I need to read a book for school. Can you help?
Sure! We have suggested Book Lists, the Accelerated Reader lists, and librarians ready to help find you something you would like to read. If you need a book for a report, we can help you on that, too.

Do you have a place I can do my homework or study?
You can work at the tables in the Children's Room, or, if you are working with a group or a tutor or need to be absolutely quiet, you can sign up for a study room on the second floor.

What can I do for fun in the library?
You can do one of our puzzles, play on one of our computers, look at our books, come to a story time, do a craft, or come to one of our special events. Check out our calendar for programs coming soon at the library.

Do you have games on the computers for preschoolers?
Yes! We have 2 computers with preschool games on them. You can also use the Magic School Bus games on the other computers.

Can I stay by myself in the library?
To keep everyone safe in the library, we ask that all children under the age of 10 have a grown up with them in the building. Library staff cannot be responsible for watching you. If you are 14 or under, we don't allow you to be in charge of children younger than you are.

Are there rules I have to follow in the library?
We expect good behavior from all of our patrons. Remember, the library is not a playground. There is no running, loud voices, jumping or crawling on or under the furniture, throwing things and so on. If you can't behave in the library, we might ask you to leave until you can!

What special kinds of materials can I check out?

  • Children's Books on Tape and CD
  • Playaways
  • Picture book and cassette kits
  • Big Books
